(Authors note: I run a record label in my spare time known as Party Time Society, which this release came out on. While I do my best to keep nepotism away from ATM and not write about things the label releases, this album is one of my favorite releases we’ve put out and I felt like I had to share it with you.)
From the moment you hit ‘play’ on ‘Blue Bla Ble’, you begin to feel the journey ahead is going to take you to the somewhere beyond the furthest reaches of the Milky Way, onward to a planet you’ve dreamed of many times, yet never actually visited. There is a familiarity in these songs, one that is constantly coaxing you into the next measure, yet surprising you with new tricks around every corner.
Steeped in warm analog synth pads from yesteryear and glitched out percussion that’s been honed to perfection, this young producer has a penchant for creating IDM that is as much future as it is retro. Underlying these Broken-Beat masterpieces, there’s a Dub aesthetic holding it all together, which reveals itself with perfectly placed skanks and delayed percussive hits. Match this with warbly sound design, intricate compositions, and a soulful groove reminiscent of the best of Jazzanova’s offerings, and it’s quite obvious this is simply the start of a brilliant producers career.
May I proudly present to you, St. Petersburg, Russia’s illocanblo…and his ep Fastakem.
