Must Listen: The beautiful sounds of Mannequins on 7th Street

I’m a sucker for pretty music.  Beautiful, melodic, downtempo bliss…with a dark side.  Back in the mid to late 90s, my music collection was filled with cds (remember those?!?!?) from the likes of The Verve, Spiritualized, The Dandy Warhols, Tricky, Morcheeba, and Stereolab.  Now mind you, this was countered with Aphex Twin, Rage Against the Machine, Roni Size, Sizzla, and a vast collection of Hip Hop that would make Rakim proud.  Yet there’s always been a part of me that keeps coming back to the sounds of 4am…slightly psychedelic, well crafted grooves that never lend any wear and tear to my hungry eardrums.

Today I said to myself, “I’m just going to hit the ‘stream’ button on Soundcloud and see what comes up and write something about it.”  The very first thing at the top of my feed was this: an enchanting 5 song collection from Mannequins on 7th Street, entitled Superblue EP.  I found myself entranced in this downtempo electro-pop bliss and immediately wanting more.  What I found was an enigmatic duo who may be from Brussels, or maybe from London, with no more than a Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud account.  No bio, no website, and no way to buy the music – which quite honestly feeds my curiosity even more!  The EP seems to have been released in November and has gotten a little bit of attention, yet there is literally no more information about this duo ANYWHERE!

I don’t have much more to say about this other than it’s a must listen for fans of gorgeous vocal electronica.  I believe that you will fall in love immediately and have your interest piqued as to when you’ll be hearing the next release.  There is no suggested track to check out, as the entire EP is worth your time….perfect weekend music!

Lastly, there’s a video for the track ‘Who Are You’ that is just as lovely as the record.
